Life is calling. How far will you go?
As a Small business development Volunteer in a rural village in Morocco, I worked with the local weaving association. One of my projects was creating a carpet catalog for the weavers. This took me into all the houses of the weavers where I photographed their carpets and family members. Here I photographed one of the weavers, Sadia, with a carpet made entirely of recycled sweater thread from her family. She had just finished it and her nephew, Mohamed, was excited about his modeling opportunity.

Mouhou Boussine, my counterpart, and I are sitting amongst her drying roses in the Valley of the Roses in Morocco. As a small business development Volunteer, I helped Mouhou develop the weaving association in the village. The weavers were all agrarian farmers and every spring, we woke at dawn to harvest roses which we often cooked into rosewater.

In the photo, I was teaching two of my host sisters, Samira and Hafsa, about how in America we make wishes on dandelions. We live in the Sahara desert but near an Oasis. Here the children know every plant, herb and even weed that grows. They always want me to eat some strange seed, or smell a weird plant. Now they know another use for dandelions! I am in the middle of helping create bathrooms for an elementary school of 200 students in Morocco. This is a view taken from the top of the bathroom, looking down. This picture was taken by a Moroccan volunteer using my camera. The volunteers are wetting the cement, then they will mix it, and pass it on to the top of the bathroom so they can finish creating the ceiling.

This photo was taken on a field trip to visit Association du Jour in Casablanca during a 3-day VAST Grant Training that was organized for Volunteers and their community partners. Most people in Morocco know of HIV/AIDS but they have never met anyone infected by it due to a high level of stigma and discrimination towards people living with HIV/AIDS. The highlights of this field trip are captured in this photo: putting a face to HIV/AIDS for Moroccans, Volunteers connecting community partners with leaders in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Morocco, and eliminating stigma and discrimination in Morocco. Ibrahim was a resident at the Orphanage for Boys Handicapped with Polio located adjacent to the Koutubia Mosque in Marrakesh, Morocco. I worked at the orphanage and facilitated the adoption of a puppy to help enhance the quality of life for the boys and staff. The new addition was a huge success.
