Si Said was a leather artisan with a business in the Marrakesh Souq and worked at the orphanage for boys handicapped with polio. He taught the boys how to make leather shoes and other leather projects and was committed to helping them find jobs so they could eventually support themselves. Si Said was a friend and co-worker who supported the Peace Corps mission and values.
Morocco - 1974
This marks the end of a long two weeks at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in DC. These Moroccan weavers pose in front of the rugs they just finished weaving and cut off the looms. Today Khadija, Fatima, and Peace Corps Volunteer Anna fly back to Morocco. Until soon, inchallah!
Safe travel to all the participants who came so far to share their cultures with us at the 2011 Smithsonian Folkife Festival! It was an honor to work with all of them over the last two weeks.
