Raising HIV/AIDS Awareness with Soap Operas

In April 2012, Peace Corps Volunteers in the Dominican Republic completed the filming of an educational soap opera. The project was designed for Volunteers to use technology in innovative ways to address common adolescent issues.
The main theme in the soap opera is HIV/AIDS education and prevention. In one of the most emotional scenes, the male protagonist tells his girlfriend of his infidelity and how he tested positive for HIV. In subsequent episodes they both learn about successfully living with HIV.

In this photo, Volunteers shoot a scene with a Dominican youth actress as she lies in bed after falling off a motorcycle in a drunk driving accident.
