Today I experienced one of the highlights of my Peace Corps service. During the National GLOW (Girls Leading Our World) Camp in Antananarivo, I took five of the hardest working young girls from the rural Malagasy community where I live to visit a fancy hotel with an elevator and a panoramic view of the capital city. Their collective excitement in exploring and seeing things they’d never imagined was priceless. My Malagasy Counterpart kept telling the girls “If you study and stay in school, you can be here in ten years.” And it’s true. If they make education a priority, they CAN accomplish so much in any aspect of life. I hope they cherish this memory forever, because I certainly will. 💗
