Be The Change

cfareaway:

It’s not often you truly get to “be the change you wish to see in the world.” Today, at my first day of school, I realized a few things.

1. The Peace Corps allows people to have so many opportunities to meet young people (any people really, just mostly young) that they could seriously influence their lives.

2. Recognizing that moment or opportunity is a challenge, a beautiful, difficult, eye-opening challenge.

3. When you do see it, it feels like you occupy such an incredibly tiny place in the world but also that you’re ten feet tall. It’s weird. Beautifully weird.

4. If you don’t seize these moments, you will feel that your service is unfulfilled.

I have huge opportunities here and I’m working hard to seize each one. Beginning with the four girls who are very proactive and have already scheduled private lessons with me this week.

What a positive thing to happen on a first day. I’m excited to see what the rest of the year has to bring.

Until next time,
Diane

Right now, more than 62 million girls around the world are not in school, half of whom are adolescent. That’s why President Obama is headed to the United Nations today to talk about building sustainable development and how we’re helping let girls learn across the globe.

Chawanzi wrote to President Obama from Zambia about girls’ education. Read her letter, then share a yearbook-style photo of yourself telling us what you learned in school using #62MillionGirls to help raise awareness for girls’ education worldwide.

Lots of smiles, hugging, and laughter at the GLOW training on Saturday! We did a lot of planning and learning, too. I always love seeing alumnae and PCVs work together and get pumped for camp. So proud to be coordinating this awesome project to educate and empower young women leaders in Macedonia!
