“How did I get so lucky to be in such a beautiful place?“
- Volunteer Andrea in Mongolia
“Taken in [Mongolia]. Picture was taken from a Land Cruiser as we watched the annual first day of school horse races. 35 boys and 1 girl participated in the 6 km race from the countryside back to the village. Family and community members drove alongside in cars and on motorcycles, cheering on the students as they raced.”
“Most people who come to Kyrgyzstan get to see or stay in a yurt and drink kymyz to their heart’s content. But not very many get to see the traditional Kyrgyz horseback games. And yet recently I found myself high in the passes of the Alay region south of Osh at the Nomad Horse Games Festival, one of the first events of its kind in the world.” - Peace Corps Volunteer Mark Jahnke http://bit.ly/1Kc65wu
I was visiting a Mongolian friend’s family in the countryside. Lots of children around and one of the teenage boys was showing me their horses. Everyone learns to ride in Mongolia and so the little boys on this horse are perfectly happy and confidant.
