It feels like an impossible task to condense all that I’ve learned and experienced and become in the last three years into one final blog post, especially since I’m sleep deprived and feeling all of the feelings. Maybe in the next days or weeks or months I will attempt this. But in the meantime, I leave you with this poem, which begins to speak to my feelings toward Peace Corps and toward the Dominican Republic.

I used to be shy. You made me sing.
I used to refuse things at table. Now I shout for more wine.
In somber dignity, I used to sit on my mat and pray.
Now children run through and make faces at me.
Thank you for following my journey!
Saying goodbye to the Peace Corps office on my last day.
"There is still so much to do but for something that started as a simple conversation over much-too-sugary coffee, it is now the primary method for emergency transport in my rural community."- Bronwen Raff, RPCV Dominican Republic, “Creating a community-led, sustainable emergency medical service”

In April 2012, Peace Corps Volunteers in the Dominican Republic completed the filming of an educational soap opera. The project was designed for Volunteers to use technology in innovative ways to address common adolescent issues.
The main theme in the soap opera is HIV/AIDS education and prevention. In one of the most emotional scenes, the male protagonist tells his girlfriend of his infidelity and how he tested positive for HIV. In subsequent episodes they both learn about successfully living with HIV.

In this photo, Volunteers shoot a scene with a Dominican youth actress as she lies in bed after falling off a motorcycle in a drunk driving accident.

At my Close of Service conference, we were asked to reflect on the people from our communities who have influenced our service. I decided to take the idea and run with it, so I’m going to int…
I’m a published author! Check out a compilation of posts I’ve written, published on the Peace Corps Passport website.
Along with my project partner, Yorkin, I interviewed 100 families in my community on health practices and beliefs. I analyzed the data, and wrote a report for peace corps. Together, we gave a presentation to the Country Director. Pictured here, Yorkin and I hold his certificate for completing our 3 month In Service Training course last month.
