Late post. Photos from Primul Sunat (First Bell). On the first day of school (always September 1), community leaders, students, teachers, and parents gather in front of the school for a ceremony that commences the new school year.
Highlights:
-The 12th form students presented the 1st form students with kids. I thought this was an interesting and special way for the eldest students to welcome the youngest.
-A 12th form student joined hands with a 1st form student to walk around the assembly area and ring the bell, commencing the school year.
-Flowers! Many students bring flowers for the teachers present them as gifts. I walked away with 4 bouquets!

It’s that time of the year again when grapes are ready to be harvested for 1. eating and 2. winemaking. Today, I helped my host family to do just that. These experiences add different colors to a Peace Corps volunteer’s service and thus create an overall service unique from other volunteers; even those serving in the same country. #notallservicesarethesame
Primul sunet or First Bell marks the first day of class in the Republic of Moldova. First graders are carried by the eldest students and paraded in front of the viewing public. The first graders are also given their first school manuals to signify the start of their learning journey. Today is also my last First Bell ceremony as a Peace Corps volunteer before I close my service once the school year ends.

Time had flown by quickly and we have now been at your site for a full year. Last year on out first night we took a photo at the city sign on the north side of town (top) so a year later we took one with the newly painted sign on the south side (bottom). We very much love our community and the people in it and are looking forward to next year.
