“This photo was taken while leading rural Salvadoran youth in a group discussion after the first performance of “A Mi Manera,” an original musical promoting life skills, gender equality, and reproductive health. Over 100 rural youth from Peace Corps volunteers’ communities came to see the performance that day which featured actors from Centro Bartolome de las Casa in San Salvador. The musical went on to tour seven more departments in El Salvador, reaching over 800 rural youth in total.”
In this photo I am hiking Mount Ilalo in Ecuador where we participated in the 3-month training. I found the strength to get through Pre-Service Training from my wife (who took the picture) and from the friends I made along the way. Hiking Ilalo was just the start of this life-changing experience for me.
There are 112 volunteers in Ecuador working with their communities on projects in youth development, education and health. More than 6,200 Peace Corps volunteers have served in Ecuador since the program was established in 1962.

This photograph was taken during technical training in the small community of La Cumbre, Dominican Republic in 2008. A group of volunteers woke up early to embark on a hike with a host brother through the Dominican forest. This young boy was eating a mango for breakfast in the morning light outside of a traditional “campo” home.
