Initiating Cookstove Construction

With students spectating and giggling outside of the school kitchen, I started constructing the stove, sweating and slightly nervous as this was the first stove I had constructed since my Pre-Service Training.

Volunteer Justin helped make a series of fuel-efficient cookstoves to introduce them to community members.

Using these stoves, he held nutrition sessions and food-cooking demonstrations to help his Wildlife Club and a group of farmers understand why maintaining good nutrition is important and how these nutrients can be obtained. Amazing work!

Bet you didn’t know you could do THIS in the Peace Corps!

As a Peace Corps Response Volunteer in Peru, Christopher Giordano supports a national program to develop a local artisanal fishing cooperative. He is also cataloging local fishing practices so that the art unique to his area can be recognized as cultural heritage of the entire country. So cool!

Volunteer Chris in Costa Rica recently attended a two-week course given by Instituto Nacional de Aprendizaje (INA), an organization that aims to promote efficiency, quality and consistency in local products.

In the training, Chris learned the process of making some of Costa Rica’s finest dairy products including queso crema (cream cheese), mascarpone, palmito, mozzarella, queso blanco, natilla casera (sour cream), dulce de leche (caramel), and helados (ice cream). Delicious!
